BOUNDARIES

With the advancement of automation and the continuing impact of the pandemic, the future of home is bound to be reformed. Working from home is bitter and sweet, since the boundary between life and work was made ambiguous. No more on and off hours, as well as no more physical distance between office and home, work hours are extended and interrupted. What if the basic labor jobs can be replaced by robots and people are mostly adapted to virtual business and entertainment? Would the prototypes from the 20th century such as the office buildings, shopping malls, movie theaters find it hard to survive in the future? If such programs can be integrated in every home, the traditional daily travel routine - the one stop after another mode would probably no longer be necessary. Rather, home becomes not only the origin to live, but also a multifunctional space unit with widened human activities - working, shopping, entertaining and wellbeing.

The concept of the home begins with the center of concentric circles. The core of the home is the office, enclosed by six pairs of sliding doors that could be fully closed, semi-open or fully open, responding to the needs of various degrees of separation from the rest of home activities. Around the core are the home theater, gym, virtual fitting room and health exam room, children’s study stations, kitchen, dining and play area. Family members are able to flexibly switch from one scene to another, while the office core can make dynamic connections with other living spaces in separate time and space.
